Khmer Coconut Dancers Wanted

Dear All, I am delighted to share with you the video of the Coconut Dance performed by our Khmer studies and their families in August 2011 UmiRsDT18&list=UUFDuvNlf2E8Ox8KbC_EEtDg&index=10.

It was a fantastic moment and experience to have a chance to perform this traditional dance. Here are the names of the performers in this video 1. Chanroeun and Sophea 2. Sithin and Polin 3. Kimunn and Monichenda 4. Virak and Lilin 5. Sokleap and Dy.

As some of you knew that the Committee Members of the Khmer Buddhist Temple in Canberra is organizing a Khmer New Year Fundraising Party in April 2013 to celebrate our traditional new year as well as to raise some funds to build a proper temple as the Khmer cultural and social centre in Canberra. The committee would like to have Khmer Coconut Dance on stage again. Therefore, Nakkrou Sokleang (our Khmer Dance Teacher) is looking for volunteers who are interested, passionate and committed to this performance. She will train you until you feel confident enough to shine on the stage. Gladly, there are four people who have agreed to join this dance: 1. Sokleap & Dy 2. Sereyroth & Sarou We are looking for three or more couples for this performance.

On a different note, I heard from the gathering yesterday that Khmer students especially those who are staying at Toad Hall will participate the Toad Hall Multicultural Night in May 2013. I think if you learn Coconut Dance properly under the instruction of Nakkrou Sokleang and perform it in the Khmer New Year Party, then you can also perform it again with strong confidence in the Toad Hall Multicultural Night in May.

Therefore, if you are passionate and interested in this cause, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can organize the training for you.

Cheers, Chanroeun
